In 1915 Sears introduced the Silvertone phonograph a hand cranked machine that came in a tabletop and free standing model. By the 1920’s Sears added the dependable Silvertone radio, radio tubes and batteries to the line. The Silverton Guitar name replaced the Supertone Guitar brand by the mid 30’s. They were the cheap guitar for sale or the student model. Guitar retailers also sold Silvertone amplifiers, parts, electric guitar packages and Silvertone guitar accessories.

Struggling Blues musicians from the 40’ and the 50’s first popularized Silvertone guitars. Blues legends like Muddy Waters and Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup are among some musicians who played Silvertones. The Silvertone guitar instruments make their unofficial mark as important artist like Chet Atkins, Bob Dylan along with Jimmie Hendrix & the Jimmy Page Danelectro were popularized as Silvertone first guitar Icons.

Models of the Vintage Silverton electric guitars are very much sought out as collectables such as the 1963 model that had the amp built into the caring case. It was powered by a 3 watt amplifier with a six inch speaker and weighed 25lbs total.
