Vocoders, Auto Tune, Sonovoxes, Talk Boxes. All these robotic vocal techniques, have come, gone, and come back again since the dawn of popular music.
Whether it be a love of science-fiction, fascination of technology, or intrigue of the future, there has always been various ways of mimicking the style and phrasing of robots or androids. In more recent times however, the vocoder as both hardware and software have been used as an electronic musical instrument.
